Showcase

The Master's in Educational Technology (MAET) has left me with many interesting artifacts that I would like to share with you in this showcase.  These artifacts are divided into two categories.  The first category is called Integrating Teaching with Technology.  This category includes how I integrated what I learned in the program into my classroom through creating lesson plans and online classrooms.  The second category is called Leading Technology Endeavors.  This category includes assignments that were not just about lead my own classroom, but how I can become a leader in the technology community.

Teaching with Technology

Literacy Teaching

Each student shows up to class with a unique learning style.  One of the students in my class was struggling with reading.  I decided to focus on helping this student improve their reading practice.  I gave them a pre test in reading to analyize where they needed focus their studies.  I found several areas to target with some intervention lessons.  I taught these lessons.  Then, I retested the student to see if the intervention work had helped improved their reading scores.  Read the entire report to find out!

Designing the Perfect Lesson

The design of a lesson can completely change how the lesson will unfold.  In order to create a lesson with a great design I needed to follow a design process.  In the Problem of Practice assignment, I followed the design process to make a math lesson that made my math teaching better.  The lesson started with an interview with students and ended with a factors lesson that was very engaging for my fourth graders.

Making Lesson Accessible to all Learners

In order to access all learners we followed the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) model to create a lesson for fourth graders.  I started with a lesson on poetry as a base.  Then, I added elements from the UDL framework to make the lesson accessable to all learners.

Using Learning Theories to Teach Fractions

There are many learning theories that surround education.  One of the learning theories is called Cognitive Apprenticeship.  When teachers use this learning theory in their teaching they follow a few steps.  This video explains the Cognitive Apprenticeship theory and how it can be applied to teach an equivalent fraction lesson.

Creating a Hybrid Classroom

I decided to create a hybrid classroom for my fourth graders on a website called Schoology.  The middle school and high school are using Schoology in the district I work in, and I thought I should learn how to integrate Schoology into the Elementary level.  I created this Screencast in order to show you around one lesson because you have to be an actual student to log into the classroom.  The hybrid lesson is part of an overall poetry unit.

Surviving the First Year Technology Resource Guide

After finishing my first year teaching, I realized I would like to help other first year teachers survive their first year.  I collected several resources that I believed would be important for new teachers to have during their first year teaching.  I collected these resources, put them into categories, and formatted them into a slideshow.

Solving Innovation in the Classroom Problem

I worked with a group to try to solve a wicked problem of practice.  We decided to tackle the problem of introducing innovation into education.  We decided that assessments were causing a lack of innovation in the classroom.  We created a s'more page that blends all of our ideas into a paper, image, and video to help bring innovation back into education.

"Makey"ing a Maker Faire

My group and I created a project using the Makey Makey.  We presented this project at a Maker Faire.  We wanted to take a stand on using technology in combination with online games to create an educational experience.  Click on the image to see exactly what our group did with the Makey Makey kit.
