Summer 2014
CEP 810: Teaching Understanding with Technology
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technology to Education
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Instructors: Spencer Greenhalgh, Craig McMichael, Michelle Schira Hagerman
These three courses were combined during the summer hybrid session. They took place on campus at Michigan State University and part online. We studied the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, which focused on blending pedagogy, content and technology. I worked collaboratively with a group to solve the wicked problem of innovation in education. Lastly, I used online resources such as blogs to learn a new skill. I learned how to use my digital camera.
Fall 2014
CEP 820: Teaching Students Online
Instructors: Anne Heintz, Sandra Sawaya
In this class I created a blended learning environment for a poetry lesson. I used Schoology as a foundation for the fourth grade classroom I created. The blended learning lesson had elements that would be done in the classroom as well as assignments that could be done online. The lessons I used focused on the elements of poetry.
TE 846: Accomodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Instructors: Amanda Smith
This course focused on improving literacy practices in schools. We focused on the Best Practices in Literacy Education by Mandel-Morrow. I used what I learned in this class to analyze one struggling literacy student in my class. I taught them a lesson that targeted where they needed to learn and retested them to look for improvements.
Spring 2015
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructors: Benjamin Gleason, Aman Yadav
During this class we studied different leadership styles. I focused on taking a stand on the thorny issue of MOOCS. I also created a Personal Manifesto that led new teachers to great resources. We also planned how we would tackle an initiative in our own school.
CEP 817: Learning Technology through Design
Instructors: Jonathon Good, Danah Henriksen
Learning Technology through Design was a class centered around the Stanford Design Model. We followed this model in order to create a lesson. I wanted to make my factors lesson more engaging. I used the design process to create a factors lesson that was both hands on and minds on for students in my classroom.
Summer 2015
CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructors: Douglas Campbell, Cary Roseth
Sometimes it is difficult to break students in misconceptions. In this class, we studied and I interviewed a student to see just how deep misconceptions run in a person's mind. I also created a lesson on equivalent fractions that followed the cognitive apprenticeship model of learning. I used this lesson in my own teachings to successfully teach equivalent fractions to fourth graders.
CEP 807: Capstone Educational Technology
Instructor: Matthew Koehler
The culmination of our entire Master's Degree Program is in the Capstone Educational Technology course. We created this portfolio in this course. We focused on showcasing our work and ourselves through this portfolio. We collaborated by giving each other feedback on our portfolio before submitting our final project.
CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Instructors: Daniel Freer, Emma Nguyen, David Wong
There were two main areas that we focused on this class. The first was how to find good research or how to be a better researcher. The second focus was about creating our own research. The final project involved a research project.
